The Special Investigation Service arrested a Border Police Officer on the fact happened in Vashlovani Protected Areas

On May 30, the Special Investigation Service launched an investigation into the fact of possibly exceeding official powers using violence and firearm committed by the Border Police Officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) against tourists in Vashlovani Protected Areas.

The conducted investigation established that on May 28, the junior sergeant of the Border Police during his duty was patrolling on foot near the area of tourist camp in Vashlovani Protected Areas at which time he disagreed with the tourists. He arbitrarily handcuffed British and Belarussian tourists without any legal basis and despite the absence of any preconditions he fired one shot from his firearm, as a result, no one was injured.

The Special Investigation Service continues the investigation of this case under Article 333, Part 3, Sub-paragraph B of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The offence shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
