During the introductory meeting, the parties discussed issues of bilateral relations and aspects of future cooperation that will contribute to the further strengthening of the independent investigation mechanism and fulfillment of international obligations undertaken by Georgia.

In his speech, Koka Katsitadze focused on the challenges faced by the Service due to the increased mandate from March 2022 and noted that the Service was able to deal with these challenges effectively with the support of the Council of Europe office and HRCPG Project.

The Special Investigation Service launched an investigation under Article 333, Part 3, Paragraph "B" of the Criminal Code of Georgia into the fact of possible exceeding official powers using violence by law enforcement officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against Zurab Girchi Japaridze and other protest demonstration participants, held near the Georgian Parliament on March 7-8, 2023, in Tbilisi.

On March 3, 2023 the Special Investigation Service launched an investigation under the Article 333, Part 3, Paragraph "B" of the Criminal Code of Georgia into the fact of possible exceeding official powers using violence by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against protest participants B.G. and N.N., held near the Georgian Parliament building on March 2, 2023, in Tbilisi.

Conducted investigation carried out by the Special Investigation Service established that on December 20, 2022, “TV Pirveli” operator N.K. performed journalistic activities near the area of D. Agmashenebeli street, Ponichala, Tbilisi. The accused person D.M. hit operator N.K.’s video camera while he was working on the reportage, as a result, N.K. lost his balance and fell. According to the above-mentioned action, NK's professional activities have interfered.

On February 24, 2023, the Special Investigation Service launched an investigation based on a report received by hotline under the Article 333, Part 3, sub-paragraph "B" of the Criminal Code of Georgia into the fact of exceeding official powers by police officers of the National Bureau of Enforcement during the eviction of Nika Gigauri's family.

With the support of the Council of Europe (COE), the Deputy Heads of the Special Investigation Service - Natia Songhulashvili and Giorgi Kvartskhelia, held working meetings in Gori and Borjomi with local representatives of law enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations, LEPL Agency for State Care And Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human trafficking, Office of Resource officers of educational institutions and the Public Defender's Office.

In order to create additional guarantees for the protection of human rights and effectively implement the recommendations of the European Court of Human Rights of Strasbourg, the Victims' Rights Protection Unit will be created within the Special Investigation Service.
