The SIS delegation met with representatives of the Belgian federal and local police

Giorgi Kvaratskhelia and Natia Songhulashvili, Deputy Heads of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) had introductory meetings with the Belgian Federal and Local Police during their official visit to the kingdom of Belgium.

As part of this visit, supported by the Council of Europe (CoE), the SIS delegation learned about the Belgian federal and local police experience on the regulatory mechanisms to prevent excessive force and manage demonstrations.

During the meeting, the police representatives introduced the attendees to the specific activities of their police units, discussed their tactics for managing demonstrations, and cases of excessive force by law enforcement officers, and shared their experiences on the reports forwarding system with oversight bodies. Belgian law enforcement officers also highlighted various forms and methods of cooperation with oversight bodies, including the Standing Police Monitoring Committee (Committee P) of the Kingdom of Belgium and the General Inspectorate of the Federal and Local Police.

The representatives of the SIS expressed their gratitude to Belgian counterparts for sharing international best practices and conveyed their readiness for future cooperation.

The official visit of the SIS representatives to the Kingdom of Belgium was supported by the Council of Europe (CoE) project “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia (HRCPG)”.
