The Head of the 2nd Department of Cooperation in Police and Deprivation of Liberty Unit of the Council of Europe, Mr. Donche Boshkovski chaired the committee meeting.
In his speech, Koka Katsitadze paid special attention to the projects implemented with the support of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, focusing on the role of these projects in the development of the Special Investigation Service.
According to him, since the launch of the Service, the Office of the Council of Europe has been providing special support to the Special Investigation Service in conducting the regional awareness raising meetings and thematic trainings. Also, with the assistance of the Office of the Council of Europe, the needs assessment document of the Special Investigation Service was developed.
It is worth noting, that on the basis of the recommendation and practice of the European Court of Human Rights, the special protocol on the cases of ill-treatment was developed, which gives the opportunity to victims, without any legal/formal status, to access the criminal case and get acquainted with the case materials. The special investigation service, with the support of the Council of Europe, introduced the mentioned document to human rights organizations and representatives of the Public Defender's office.
Also, future plans of the Service were developed with the help of experts of the Council of Europe.
The Head of the Special Investigation Servicenoted that during the next year it will be important to implement joint projects to ensure the effective use of special protection measures, which allows the potential victim to feel safe.
