Statement of the Special Investigation Service
The Special Investigation Service is investigating a criminal case on the fact of possible excess of official powers – the use of violence - by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs against citizen Irakli Miladze. The crime is provided by Article 333, Part 3, sub-paragraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
On December 12, 2022, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Irakli Miladze for an administrative offense. He was placed in the Temporary Detention Isolator (TDI) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in Tbilisi, where he filed a complaint regarding physical and verbal insult by police officers after his arrest.
On December 13, 2022, an investigator of the Special Investigation Service met Irakli Miladze in the Temporary Detention Isolator (TDI) for an interview, but he refused to provide the information.
Given this fact, the investigative and procedural actions have been continuing in an active mode - the investigation body studies the route of movement of the detained citizen, as well as the circumstances of the detention and identifies the video recordings demonstrating important facts for the investigation.
During the ongoing investigationperiod, the Special Investigation Service will fully ensure the involvement of citizen Irakli Miladze in the criminal case and will introduce all the materials of this case.
Additional information about the results of the investigation will be provided to the public.
