The Legislative amendments expand the institutional and functional independence of the Special Investigation Service


 The Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Special Investigation Service were finally considered and unanimously supported by the 77 voters at the Parliament of Georgia.
According to the Legislative amendments, the institutional and functional independence of the Special Investigation Service enlarge.
Strictly speaking/ In particular,

 The investigative subdivision of the Special Investigation Service is expanding. The Service will also investigate crimes in the connection with a violation of the Article 18 of the EU Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms;

 The amendment envisages to increase the authority of the Special Investigation Service during the implementation of the Article 19 and expands the effectiveness of the special protection measures for the participants in the process;

 The issues of the right of unimpeded access to penitentiary institutions and the unimpeded appeal of the persons detained there, are regulated;

The Legislative amendments expand the equal social and legal protection guarantees for the all-staff members of the Special Investigation Service.

The Special Investigation Service appealed with a legislative proposal on the amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Special Investigation Service to the Parliament of Georgia on March 30, 2022.
