Mrs. Natia Songhulashvili, the Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Service met with representatives of the Georgian Center for Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (GCRT)
The Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Service, Mrs. Natia Songhulashvili held an introductory meeting with GCRT Project Manager Shorena Zedginidze and Case Manager Gvantsa Sherozia.
During the meeting, the increased mandate of the service, the main principles of its activity, future plans, and the aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed.
The main attention was focused on the victim’s involvement in the investigation process, in particular, there was indicated guideline on familiarization with the criminal case materials and providing information to the victims of ill-treatment. The document was developed on the basis of the recommendations and practice analysis of the European Court of Human Rights.
In regards to the increased mandate, Natia Songhulashvili also outlined the newly added articles to the jurisdiction of the Service, where the biggest challenge is criminal disclosure of information relating to private life. Therefore, special protection of victims became more important.
The parties expressed their readiness to cooperate in terms of psychosocial rehabilitation in the process of investigating crimes of violence against women, and domestic /sexual violence.
At the end of the meeting, the issue of the minor survey, the role of the psychologist’s involvement in that process as well as the psychosocial rehabilitation were discussed.
The Head of the administration of the Special Investigation Service, Mrs. Sofo Chareli, the Head of the International Relations Department, Mrs. Natia Pirashvili, and the Head of the Public Relations Department, Mrs. Ani Tsiklauri attended the meeting.
